Planning Today, Protecting Tomorrow

Putting your wishes in place now can bring clarity, peace of mind and security, for you and everyone you love. It's never too early to plan. In fact, the best time is always before you need to.

Many people put off legal planning because it feels complicated, or because confronting questions about the future is uncomfortable. But without a plan in place, the people you care about most can face significant stress, delays, and uncertainty at exactly the moment they need support.

Why Planning Matters Now

Life is unpredictable. A sudden illness, accident, or bereavement can leave families scrambling to manage affairs without the right legal documents in place. The good news is that these situations are entirely preventable, with a modest investment of time, you can protect your estate and your loved ones for years to come.

At Laurselle Legal, we provide clear guidance and support every step of the way, making the process straightforward, personal, and stress-free.

Wills, Your Wishes, Protected

A valid, up-to-date Will is the cornerstone of any estate plan. Without one, the rules of intestacy decide who inherits your estate, and those rules rarely reflect your personal wishes or your family's unique circumstances.

  • Ensure your wishes are known. A Will gives you full control over who receives your assets, who cares for any minor children, and how your estate is managed.
  • Protect your loved ones. Unmarried partners, stepchildren, and close friends have no automatic entitlement under intestacy law. A Will changes that.
  • Reduce family conflict. Clear, documented wishes leave no room for dispute and spare your family from unnecessary legal wrangling during an already difficult time.
"A Will is one of the most important documents you will ever sign. It costs far less, in time, money and heartache, to create one than to leave your family without one."

Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to appoint trusted people to make decisions on your behalf if you are ever unable to do so yourself. There are two types:

  • Property and Financial Affairs LPA, covers your bank accounts, property, investments, and bills. Your attorney can manage these if you lose capacity or simply find it difficult to do so yourself.
  • Health and Welfare LPA, covers medical treatment, care arrangements, and your day-to-day welfare. It only comes into effect if you lose mental capacity.

Critically, LPAs can only be created while you have full mental capacity. Once capacity is lost, it is too late, and your family may need to apply to the Court of Protection, a far more costly and time-consuming process.

Estate Planning, Reduce Stress, Protect Your Estate

Estate planning goes beyond a Will. A holistic plan considers how your assets are structured, how Inheritance Tax might affect your estate, and how to ensure what you have built passes to the people you choose, efficiently and with minimal disruption.

Key areas we help clients address include:

  • Inheritance Tax planning and reliefs available to your estate
  • Trusts to protect assets for children, grandchildren, or vulnerable beneficiaries
  • Property ownership structures (joint tenants vs tenants in common)
  • Pension nominations and life insurance beneficiary designations
  • Business succession planning for owner-managed businesses
